Fashion Designer

DEREK LAM We are looking for a Designer with 5-7 year experience in advanced contemporary to join the Derek Lam team. Qualifications• 7+ years working as a Woven Designer, on multiple product categories (designer &contemporary level preferred)• A degree in fashion design• Excellent design and sketching skills.

Ability to communicate designs clearly. • Strong independent researching skills, highly creative and passionate• Good knowledge of garment construction and strong experience fitting wovens• Initiative-taker with the ability to manage multiple seasons at once.

• Excellent communication and organizational skills• Collaborative approach to design and able to give and receive constructivecriticism. • Proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator InDesign & ExceLThis is a full-time, on-site Fashion Designer role based in New York, NY.

Responsibilities • Contribute to all aspects & stages of the design process under guidance of the Creative

Director. • Participate in seasonal concept research, vintage sourcing, garment construction,finishing techniques, fabric treatments, and proposed drapes. • Research current trends in designer and contemporary markets and anticipate futuretrends.

• Partner with Creative Director to sketch and spec for the main collection and update theessential collection. • Comprehensive understanding of the merchandising plans. • Contribute original ideas and designs to each collection.

• Responsible for interpreting the seasonal direction into innovative and commercial designs. • Analyze past best and worst sellers for future developments. • Responsible in researching and sketching into Dresses, Pants, Tops, and Cut & Sew.

• Attend and participate in proto and SMS fittings,• Collaborate with Assistant Designer to administer sketch/flat updates after fittings. • Work with product development, technical design, pattern makers and sample makers to ensure styles are correct to design specifications.
